【音楽】懐かしの The Spacial AKA 'Nelson Mandela'

2Tone（ツー・トーン） SKA が流行したのは私が小学生の頃だっただろうか。

The Specials、The Selecter、Bad Manners、Madness 等々

HONDA CITY のCMに起用されたこともあり、Madness の 'In The City' は日本で大ヒットした。


その中でも異彩を放っていたのが The Specials 解散後にリーダーの Johnny　Dammer を中心に結成されたバンドThe Special AKA だ。

SKA だけではなく Jazz、Soul 、Funk といった黒人音楽からの影響を前面に押し出したスタイルと、政治や人種差別といった問題をテーマにした歌詞といい、それまでのツー・トーンとは一線を画していた。

特に 'Nelson Mandela' は最も成功した曲であり、ネルソン・マンデラ氏が解放されたときには、涙とともにこの曲が頭の中でグルグルと回っていたことを覚えている。

このたび、彼らの唯一のアルバム 'In The Studio'　のCD が手に入ったので早速聴いてみたいと思う。（LPは擦り切れるほど聴きました・・・）

歌詞の冒頭を自己流に翻訳してみた。歌詞は短いけれどメッセージ性はかなり強い。

後半は 'AMC' の意味がわからないので断念。
